Alerts
Critical alerts and communication workflows.
In the relentless rhythm of hospital life, where critical lab results can arrive at midnight, a patient's condition can deteriorate without warning, and discharge delays cost revenue and beds, timely communication is the difference between optimal outcomes and preventable complications. Pensieve's Alerts module is a sophisticated, multi-channel notification engine designed to ensure that no important event ever goes unnoticed, delivering the right information to the right person at the exact moment it matters - whether inside the hospital wards today in India or across sophisticated American networks tomorrow. Our system sends instant, reliable push notifications that light up mobile devices even when the app is closed. Every clinically significant action triggers a context-aware alert: a panic lab value (hyponatremia less than 120, troponin more than 0.1, potassium more than 6.0) verified by the technician fires immediately to the treating consultant, the on-call resident, and the nursing supervisor. When a radiology report is finalized, the referring doctor receives a concise summary push - “Chest X-ray: Bilateral infiltrates suggestive of pneumonia” - with one-tap access to the full report and images. New orders marked STAT appear on nursing phones with red banners and audible alerts, while routine medication due times show as gentle reminders. For environments where push reliability might vary - rural clinics with patchy data or senior consultants who prefer traditional channels - alerts seamlessly escalate to SMS via integrated gateways, ensuring delivery even on feature phones. Customization is deep and role-based. Administrators define alert rules per site or department: ICU might trigger on every hourly vital deviation, while OPD focuses only on final reports and appointment no-shows. Thresholds pull dynamically from patient data - sepsis alerts use qSOFA scores calculated real-time from template entries, AKI warnings reference the latest creatinine trend. Conditional logic prevents overload: alerts snoozed during known procedures or escalated only if unacknowledged after five minutes. Patients and families stay gently informed through the Patient App, where non-alarming notifications appear in a dedicated bell icon: “Your lab reports are ready”, “Medicine reminder: Take Tab. Amlodipine 5mg now”, “Discharge summary approved, view here”, or “Follow-up appointment tomorrow at 10 AM”. Sensitive critical alerts (like abnormal biopsy results) are withheld from patients until the doctor marks them for release, preserving the human touch. Every alert is logged immutably in the patient's timeline with sender, recipients, delivery timestamps, and acknowledgment status - creating a medico-legally sound trail for audits, mortality reviews, or insurance disputes. Dashboards show alert response times by doctor or nurse, helping quality teams identify bottlenecks. From a sudden hypoglycemic episode in the ward to a long-awaited biopsy report finally arriving on a Sunday, Pensieve's Alerts module turns potential oversights into immediate, coordinated responses - pushing information across push, SMS, WhatsApp, and in-app channels with precision that keeps patients safer, staff accountable, and communication seamless across your growing hospital network.
